Natasha Henry-Dixon is an assistant professor of African Canadian History at York University. The 2018 Vanier Scholar is researching the enslavement of Black people in colonial Ontario. She will present “Black Women’s History in Canada” on February 17. The meeting link (zoom) will be sent to members before the meeting.

Natasha Henry-Dixon’s publications include 

· Emancipation Day: Celebrating  Freedom in Canada (June 2010), 

· Talking about Freedom: Celebrating Freedom in Canada (2012),

· a number of youth-focused titles,

· and several entries for the Canadian Encyclopedia on African  Canadian history. 

Through her various professional, academic, and community roles, Natasha’s work is grounded in her commitment to research, collect, preserve, and disseminate the histories of Black Canadians

Age is Just a Number

Dr. Gillian Lockitch is the founder of Growing Older, Living Younger, a platform that aims to change aging at the cellular level, promote health span over lifespan, and help people feel vibrant, healthy, and energetic as they age. As a medical specialist with a doctorate from the University of Cape Town and degrees from the University of British Columbia she has over 25 years of experience in research and education in biochemistry, genetics, and nutrition. Dr. Lockitch uses her expertise to guide people to age gracefully by implementing strategies for wellness and youth preservation.

Women who decoded the universe

Women physicists and astronomers from around the world have transformed science and society, but the critical roles they played in their fields are not always well-sung. This talk celebrates these remarkable women’s incredible scientific contributions while also exploring the challenges they faced and the many ways they reshaped society. 

Shohini Ghose is a Professor of Physics at Wilfrid Laurier University and the Chief Technology Officer of the Quantum Algorithms Institute. Her research has contributed to foundational advances in quantum computing and communication.

From October 16, 2024, to January 5, 2025, CFUW Oakville proudly presents an exhibit marking the 75th anniversary of the CFUW Oakville Club*. This exhibit is the result of extensive work and collaboration with our esteemed partners, listed below.

For our upcoming October 21 General Meeting we welcome Speaker Kimberly Viney presenting “Future Vision for Botanical Gardens”.  Kim joined Royal Botanical Gardens as  Chief Operating Officer in January 2023 to assist the CEO with bringing RBG’s renewed vision to life.  Kim is involved with RBG’s new strategic twenty-five year master plan along with overseeing RBG’s daily multi-faceted operations….

Our guest speaker on September 16 is award winning thought leader Kelly Drennan with “Fashion Takes Action”.  Kelly is dedicated to driving sustainability in the fashion industry, and in 2007, she founded Fashion Takes Action….

We are announcing the successful recipients of the University Women’s Club of Oakville Scholarship Fund awards and scholarships for 2024.  CFUW-Oakville is pleased to announce scholarships of $24 600 in total to help local students with their educational journey.  These young women were selected from the city’s publicly funded high schools, based on high academic achievement, outstanding community service and demonstrated leadership.
