April’s Guest Speaker

The University of Guelph apiculture research and education program was established in 1894. Their mandate is to help bees and the beekeeping community thrive. In this presentation, some of the fascinating aspects of honey bee biology will be described.

Then the focus will be on the important role that bees play in food production. Hive health issues, and the solutions they are working on at the Honey Bee Research Centre, will lead into a discussion about the initiatives everyone can consider to  benefit pollinators. One solution is to grow trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants that are beneficial to  pollinators.

On April 15 our speaker will be Paul Kelly, who has managed the Honey Bee Research Centre since 1987, overseeing research, education, and bee colony management. The centre’s efforts include producing 77 beekeeping videos, their latest can be found on the YouTube channel Here➡️

In 2022 Paul Kelly was honoured in the Ontario Agriculture Hall of Fame, read Here➡️ More details about HBRC is on their website Here➡️
